In other words, being professional can be defined as the act of behaving in a way which is expected by the chosen profession. Professionalism in nursing consists of the tremendous responsibility of maintain and upholding the different moral virtues of the profession but also possess a number of core nursing values which helps them in governing their beliefs and behaviors towards their patients. The essay will mainly portray the idea and also importance of professionalism in nursing with discussions over the principles of professional standards advised by Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Nursing profession mainly embodies a number of values as well as moral virtues which are not only inherent in austral but also all over the world. These include responsibility, honesty, pursuit of new knowledge, maintenance of patient dignity as well as to maintain equality in all patients. They also have the duty to prevent and also alleviate suffering of the patients. In order to maintain professionalism in nursing one needs to have the right attitude at the workplace making the care of patients, their first concern. Their profes sion demands them to work with fellow staffs in a way so that they can protect and promote health of the patients, families and also carers. Professionalism in nursing demands her to be honest with proper actions of integrity and disallowing any stigmas and discrimination within patients. Even his drinking habits are seriously criticized. This should be strictly avoided. APHRA believes that the nurses should practice in safe and competent manner maintaining the standards of professional and broad health system and maintaining relevant laws accordingly. They should also respect ethnicity, dignity, cultures, values and believes of proper caring maintain complete privacy and confidentiality of patients ("New-Code-of-Professional-Conduct-for-Nurses", 2017). Promoting trust and privilege among patient nurse relationships is very necessary along with developing confidence among them. They should also try to reflect on their practices so that they can determine their skill in maintaining the profession. Therefore maintenance of professionalism along with the possession of correct skills and attributes is very much important in nursing profession. She should portray correct organizational skills, stress management, be kind and compassionate, and have dedication and patience with excellent communication skills. She should be alert and observant with critical thinking ability and also be responsible to her profession. A nurse who is professional and performs her job efficiently can not only make her more dedicating to the care of humanity but can also avoid any legal complications as well.
